Proofs for Islam

what are some evidences for the truth of islam?

God calls on us to acknowledge Him through His signs and has made it our responsibility to ponder and reflect in order to recognize Him. Some people are receptive to these signs and see God's work all around them, while others dismiss everything as random and meaningless. God has placed in every person, a natural inclination to believe, but this innate predisposition to believe can either be nurtured or suppressed.

Importantly, God guides people who are sincere and willing to receive guidance. In other words, those who do not want to believe in God will not be guided. God says, "God guides to Himself whoever turns to Him." Quran 13:27

This requires objectivity and an unbiased attitude to the possibility of God's existence, which can be quite confronting and humbling for some people, but without this genuine openness and willingness, no amount of information can make someone believe. In fact, God warns us that those who approach His signs from a position of pride and arrogance will only find justification for their disbelief.

Therefore, we hope that those who are sincere, open minded and genuinely seeking the truth can benefit from this information and that it helps present a new perspective to understanding God.

We will divide the proofs by category. Please, read this with an open-mind and an open-heart. If you are sincere, then InshaAllah you will be guided to the straight path.

We begin with ‘Bismillah Ar-Rahman Ar-Rahim’ [In the name of Allah, the Most-Gracious, the Most-Merciful]:

1. The Linguistic Miracle of the quran

The Quran is a linguistic masterpiece. The verses are so eloquent and beautiful. During the time of Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him), the Arab culture revolved around poetry and the Arabic language. Like how we pride ourselves on technology today, they prided themselves on poetry and the Arabic language. This was to such an extent that they hung their most valued poems on the Kaaba, (The Cube structure in Mecca built by Abraham). One could raise his status and cause societal change just by reading an eloquent poem that moved the people. Now, when the Quran was revealed, there was nothing like it. Nothing could compare to it. The Arab poets, who prided themselves on their mastery of the Arabic language, were completely mesmerized by the eloquence of the Quran.

Listen to the eloquence of the Quran as it is being recited:

2. the quranic challenge

The Quran presents a challenge to those who deny that this is a revelation from God. The Quran says,

“And if you are in doubt about what We have sent down upon Our Servant [Muhammad], then produce a surah the like thereof and call upon your witnesses other than Allah, if you should be truthful.” [2:23]

Allah (God) presents a challenge to those who are doubtful of the Quran: Produce a single chapter like it. This challenge has never been fulfilled and will never be fulfilled. Even the best of poets in Arabia could not fulfill it, despite their linguistic ability in the Arabic language. Furthermore, Allah says,

“Then do they not reflect upon the Qur'an? If it had been from [any] other than Allah, they would have found within it much contradiction.” [4:82]

The Quran does not contain a single contradiction. This is another proof that this is truly Divine revelation from God.

3. The historical miracles found in the quran

The Quran predicts historical facts of the future that could not have been known at the time. For instance, at the height of the war between the Romans and the Persians. For centuries the Romans and Persians were a war with each other. They were the two great world superpowers at the time. At the height of the war, the Persians had conquered most of Roman land. The odds of the Romans defeating the Persians now was nearly impossible. The Persians were at the heart of the Roman empire, the capital: Constantinople. The Roman Empire was on the brink of collapse. Yet, at this time, Allah revealed the following verse of the Quran, the meaning of which is:

"The Romans have been defeated in a nearby land. Yet following their defeat, they will triumph within three to nine years. The ˹whole˺ matter rests with Allah before and after ˹victory˺. And on that day the believers will rejoice at the victory willed by Allah. He gives victory to whoever He wills. For He is the Almighty, Most Merciful."

[Quran 30: 2-5]

Here Allah informs us that the Romans will defeat the Persians, despite the fact that at that when the verse was revealed, Constantinople was being besieged. It is also mentioned in the verse that on that day the believers will rejoice. The Muslims wanted the Romans to win because the Romans were people of the book (those with a revealed scripture). The Meccan Pagans wanted the Persians to win because the Persians were idol worshippers. Yet, the Romans made an incredible comeback. And on the day when the Romans defeated the Persians, the Muslims defeated the Meccan pagans in the Battle of Badr. And exactly as mentioned in the verse: "the believers will rejoice at the victory willed by Allah".

4. The prophecies of Prophet muhammad (peace be upon him)

Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) made many prophecies, many of which have already come true word for word, exactly as the prophecy describes. Only a true Prophet of God could have been given such knowledge. Let us analyze a few of these prophecies:

The Prophet (Peace be upon him) said, "Verily you shall conquer Constantinople. What a wonderful leader will her leader be, and what a wonderful army will that army be!" This prophecy has already been fulfilled, as we clearly see in history. The Muslims conquered Constantinople in 1453, under the leadership of Sultan Mehmed II. And to this day, Muslims rule Constantinople, or as it’s known today: Istanbul.

The Prophet (Peace be upon him) said, “There will come a time when there will be no one left who does not consume Riba [interest], and whoever does not consume it will nevertheless be affected by residue." We see this clearly today. Everything has been touched by interest. From buying a house, buying a car, credit cards, getting a loan, etc. It involves interest. Even those who aren’t directly involved in it are still affected by it. In fact, the whole economy is significantly impacted by interest (stocks, bonds, inflation, etc.).

Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) was once asked about signs of the last hour, about which he said: "...when you see barefoot, naked, destitute shepherds competing in constructing tall buildings." Today, this prophecy is very evident. Where is the tallest building in the world? Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates (Burj Khalifa). Who is competition with them? Saudi Arabia in their planned construction of the Jeddah Tower, which would become the world's tallest building at 1 kilometer tall. Throughout history, Bedouins/shepherds have been simple people. They were not known to construct extravagant structures. But, with the discovery of oil, everything changed and abundant wealth flowed in. And now these people who used to live simple lives began building mega cities and the world's tallest buildings.

5. The message of all the prophets

All the prophets came with the same message: To worship one God, associating none in worship with him. All these men throughout the centuries preached the same message. Noah, Abraham, Jacob, Jonah, Ishmael, Isaac, Job, Moses, Jesus, Muhammad, and all the rest of the Prophets (Peace be upon them all). If we think about this logically, if there was no God, then what were all these men preaching? If God doesn't exist, then why would all these men claim to be Prophets of God?

If God didn't exist, there would only be two possibilities for these men: they were all liars or they were all insane/madmen. Now, let’s evaluate those claims. For them to all be liars, it would mean they were all lying about the exact same thing. They would have been lying about revelation, about continuing the message of the previous prophets, about everything. But this claim can easily be dismissed by one simple question: What did they get out of it? Their preaching only led to more difficulties as their people insulted them, they were oppressed, mocked, kicked out of their own homes, their lives were threatened. Why would they go through all this trouble just for some ‘lie’? In fact, the Pagans of Mecca offered Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) all the wealth he could want, any women, and rulership of Mecca, all if he just stopped preaching the message of Islam. Yet, the Prophet (pbuh) instantly declined. He doesn't care about these materialistic things. That isn’t what he’s after. He is a Messenger from God, sent to deliver the message.

Now, let’s evaluate the second claim: they were all madmen. This claim can easily be dismissed by looking at their character. These were the best of men in their societies. The people looked up to them. Their message was one of peace, justice, and kindness. They had the best of character and they were the strongest and most determined of men. This is not the description of madmen. This is the description of the Prophets of God. Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) was called ‘the truthful one’ by his people even before prophethood. And even after he began preaching Islam, the pagans who hated the message still trusted their belongings with him because they knew he would never lie or wrong them. Who can be so trustworthy that even their enemies trust their belongings with them? This is not the character of a liar or a madman.

The Quran addresses such claims in multiple places. Allah says in the Quran:

“Now, the pagans are astonished that a warner has come to them from among themselves. And the disbelievers say, “This is a magician, a total liar!” [Quran 38:4]

“Then do they not give thought? There is in their companion [Muhammad] no madness. He is not but a clear warner.” [7:184]

“Similarly, no messenger came to those before them without being told: “A magician or a madman!” [51:52]

“So ˹continue to˺ remind ˹all, O Prophet˺. For you, by the grace of your Lord, are not a fortune-teller or a madman.” [52:29]

“Indeed, We sent messengers before you ˹O Prophet˺ among the groups of early peoples, but no messenger ever came to them without being mocked.” [Quran 15:10-11]

To learn who Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) really was:

The conclusion

In Islam, we believe that we are all born with an innate inclination towards God. This ‘moral compass’, if you will, gives us the distinction between right and wrong. This is called the ‘fitrah’. We are all born upon the ‘fitrah’. We are all born believing in one God. Yet, through our parents and society, that belief in one God is neglected. A Muslim is, by definition, one who submits themselves to the will of God. Therefore, we are all born as Muslims. Now the question you have to ask yourself is: will you submit yourself to the will of God?

“Say, ˹O Prophet,˺ “O humanity! I am Allah’s Messenger to you all. To Him ˹alone˺ belongs the kingdom of the heavens and the earth. There is no god ˹worthy of worship˺ except Him. He gives life and causes death.” So believe in Allah and His Messenger, the unlettered Prophet, who believes in Allah and His revelations. And follow him, so you may be ˹rightly˺ guided.” [Quran 7:158]

This was a brief introduction to some proofs that Islam is the truth. But, our dear friends, the ultimate proof is the Quran. If you felt inclined towards any of the points mentioned, you should consider taking a step forward and reading the Quran. We'd be more than happy to send you one if need be.
