FAQ
What does 'We' mean in the Quran?
The usage of 'We' in the Quran is the royal 'we'. For instance, when a monarch issues statements or decrees in which they say “We have decided…” etc. In such cases, only one person is speaking but the plural is used for respect. The One Who is more deserving of respect than any other is Allah, may He be glorified and exalted, so when Allah says in the Qur’an innaa (“Verily We”) and nahnu (“We”), it is for respect and glorification.
"We have surely sent you with the truth [O Prophet] as a deliverer of good news and a warner.” [Quran 2:119]
Did Islam start with Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him)?
It is a common misconception that Islam started with Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him). In fact, Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) is the last prophet sent in a long line of prophets. Islam has been here from the beginning. Islam is the pure monotheism that all the prophets were upon. The word 'Muslim' means one who submits themselves to God. Therefore, all the prophets were Muslims. And the true followers of those prophets were Muslims.
"Indeed, We sent to every community a messenger, [saying], “Worship Allah and shun false gods.” [Quran 16:36]
